Woody's Hotel

Review of Woody's Hotel, J.P.Nagar, Bangalore.

Today had being to the newly innovated Woody's hotel. The change that I found from the conventional hotel was that there was open area to collect your snacks and be seated. It is spacious. Earlier when we are siting inside the AC area I would feel like sitting in a Mangalore hotel, but now I feel it like a fast food space. There is not specific dress code any for the waiters. Have raised the price along the innovation. Centeral Mall, Big Bazar being opposite to this location its a good business center. They have lodging facility there as well. The food quality is very good. Can guarantee that the Masala Dosa..that I order regularly is tasty. All who have a chance should try!!

Krishna Rao Park

I am amazed by this park which is located in Basavangudi, near Gandhi Bazar area, South Bengaluru. It's a best spot for children to play, lovers to romance, senior men and women to walk/chat and working class to exercise. What I was found of are the huge tress in the park, could be more than 100 years old. It's all lush green and welcoming. I bet most of them visited the park would be parents who stop by seeing the play ground with playing instruments which resides on ones side of the park, utilize and enjoy that spot and return without knowing what else is within this park. I am staying in Bangalore more than 20 years and last week is the first time I took a stroll round the park. I felt like I was in the movie "Lord of the Rings" - 2nd part where the tress walk and talk. You don't feel you are in the highest polluted city in India. Every Bangalore should give a visit.

Team outing with LBS

When you accept change there is a line of other things that you will need to adapt to, which is unplanned. Changing Job was my decision but what came along with it are inevitable things that I had to be a part off.
Being in my earlier company I had being a part of 100 member team and outing and team dinner was held regularly. It was something that was taken for granted. The company was spending lavishly to keep the employees satisfied and happy. But now I do not find it. The environment here is very different. Should say that there is more value of money. It is not that they do not consider the employees satisfaction, it is the culture that has changed after the recession in 2002. A lot of thinking goes for any cost that would incur. Personally that is how I like it.

This is the first outing of the team since inception. Glad that I could be part of it. We are close knit 28 member team from Bangalore. We were only 2 ladies in this group and never felt odd in this group. It's the bond that the company culture has unknowingly thought us. Earlier I would fell that I or should say the ladies were dominated by the male gang even though we were 30 of them. Here I did not feel the hint of it. It was such a pleasant feeling. I doubt that anyone even thought of night dance party which was the awaited event in my previous company. Here all gave importance to family. It was family first and then work. We were done by 5pm and off we left. We had followed the Go Green policy of car pooling. I felt like a group of children enjoying their day with the little pocket money that was saved. And every one relished the moment because it was rare. It was the birthday and anniversary of one of our team mate which was celebrated with a simple touch and I am sure he would remember it. Now that I think of it I feel lucky to be a part of it. Should say I have not emphasised my outing or about the resort in this blog, I have basically put my thought about the team which I give priority to. Thanks to my team.

Luxury vs Ordinary

My perspective about Traveling in the city is the thought I have in mind to share on this page. Bangalore has become a diverse city with people from all states landing to settle and start a new life. There seems to be only 10% of localites around and rest of 90% seem to dominate in all areas. Be it in any office..Andhra, Tamil, Malayalees are the majority.

By default any one who carries a backpack behind his back is a Software Engineer. So, it means he is a person who is extraordinarily paid more than the others. So, he is subjected to different care. The price could increase by 50% unlike when it is bought by an ordinary guy...i.e without a laptop bag.

On Monday's I need to catch the bus to Hebbal ( 40Kms from home) and when I look out for the direct bus to reach I find a conductor telling me.."Madam, Volva alli baruthade" ( madam, Volvo will arrive at that stop) . I wonder what made him conclude that I would not go by the other ordinary bus. As my nature goes, I try out different things and adapt to the process that is feasible.

I did try out Volvo bus from Banashankari to Hebbal..my feeling would be different from others ..i felt the seating uncomfortable. Sometimes the AC's just point to you and if you are not tall to change the direction you would be like freezing all along the way, which I did experience. As it is at the conductor/driver's discretion when the bus would move from one stop to other. The bus could commute like a boat but the time taken vary relatively. It makes me lazy..

On the contrary, I tried namma local bus last week, and believe me I found it better. The best part is because there is no AC and as the air gushes thru the window i feel sleepy and involuntary i go to sleep and it refreshes me by the time I reach my destination and I am with all energy to take the next bus.

Believe me, don't be taken away by Luxury, there is always something good in ordinary which only experience can teach you.

Confident with the 'Right Hand'

There were many instance's where I have found Guardian's/Parents holding their child's hands while walking on the road. It might be a simple view with no importance, but I always thought why do they hold the child on the side where there are chances that the vehicle could hit them, the same could be done by holding their hands on the left side why always the right?? Now that I am the mother I know the answer to it. It is not which side that the child is walking it is because on which side am i confident to protect the child with the sudden reflex if any untoward occurrences. All simple things that we see do have a reason behind it.

Something to learn from Japan's Tragedy

1. THE CALM
Not a single visual of chest-beating or wild grief. Sorrow itself has been elevated.
2. THE DIGNITY
Disciplined queues for water and groceries. Not a rough word or a crude gesture.
3. THE ABILITY
The incredible architects, for instance. Buildings swayed but didn’t fall.
4. THE GRACE
People bought only what they needed for the present, so everybody could get something.
5. THE ORDER
No looting in shops. No honking and no overtaking on the roads. Just understanding.
6. THE SACRIFICE
Fifty workers stayed back to pump sea water in the N-reactors. How will they ever be repaid?
7. THE TENDERNESS
Restaurants cut prices. An unguarded ATM is left alone. The strong cared for the weak
8. THE TRAINING
The old and the children, everyone knew exactly what to do. And they did just that.
9. THE MEDIA
They showed magnificent restraint in the bulletins. No silly reporters. Only calm reportage.
10. THE CONSCIENCE
When the power went off in a store, people put things back on the shelves and left quietly

Book Review - The Kite Runner

My first reaction after completing the only activity I did today - reading the book "The Kite Runner" is to write this blog. I want to thank the author Dr. Khaled Hosseni. for his wonderful creation. He is a doctor by profession but his passion is to write books. Hoping that Mr. Khaled would read this note I write to him.

Dear Dr.Khaled,
I just happen to complete reading your book "The kite runner". I am completely moved by your words. You definately know how to translate your thoughts to words that attract any reader to complete the book in one go. I like all the characters in this book which teaches how to handle obstables in life. Everytime i think that the book is reaching a happy ending you put in a complete twist to the story. The book has encouraged me to write more like Amir Jan. I pray that God bless you to write more books and at least change the way people think about the fortunes that they possess. Thank you very much.

Books for our Angles

My son is 4 year old and my focus now is how to get his attention to read books. I encourage him to read books in the library, but we both turn out to be noisy and the librarian gets annoyed and warns us. Embarrassed, I pull him out from the library. This is the situation every time.

I was fortunate to attend a book exhibition at office and I noticed a book named "Magic Pot" - typically meant for small children. When I went through the content of the book there are essential tricks to get the kid's attention but the guide/reader should show the enthusiasm in reading it too.

Topics covered involves kids to
  • write number
  • alphabets
  • solve maze puzzles
  • recognize actions
  • colour worksheet
  • puzzle to check memory
  • simple games
  • do simple crafts
  • find the difference in pictures
  • recognize matching items
enough things to get the kids engaged.

I have subscribed this book for around 4 months, and my son now knows which is the page in the book which provides instructions to do the crafts.

I recommend all parents of kids 4 to 7 year old to subscribe this book. And I would suggest that it would be a good birthday gift to kids.

2012 December!!

Glad to write a blog now. It's been sometime. I need my thoughts to be flushed out right ? This is a very good place. What I today want to blabber is about the event or should I tell the havoc that is going to take place in 2012. The reason this came to my mind suddenly is because today when I was returning from office I found two temple's that i pass by regularly decorated with bright lights and crowd to a great extent. Even though I have little knowledge on the functions that the south indians celebrate, i was sure there was nothing special today, or I doubted for ones. As I reached my home my first question to my mom was if today was a auspicious day. When I told her the reason of my curiousness she answered that people are praying for the terrible day of 2012 December does not happen, they all have decided to walk by foot to the temple and pray to the God. How did she get this info..by TV9 news. The one and only news channel which provides all weird news other than what really matters to people around.

My reaction to this : Let me see that day.
I am a tenant to this universe and eventually I will have to leave, it would be quite early so enjoy until then than thinking about what the hell is going to happen.

I have the date - 21st December 2012. I am eagerly waiting for that day :)
